Partial Preset and LUT issue

As I mentioned in my other post

When trying to create a partial preset that has a LUT, I go through all the steps and save. However, when I try to apply it, it does not apply and I get this message “Preset Alert: Do you want to save your change; yes; no; cancel”.

It does not matter which option I choose, the new preset does not work. BUT, if I click on some other preset and either yes or no, it is automatically applied.

I can now click on any existing preset - except the new one - and it automatically applies.

Also, if I click on an image in the film strip, that image is altered with no indication of the change in the history. It cannot be Reset. If I exit PL and restart, then everything is back to normal and the changed images are back to the way they were.

If I click on the partial preset again, the the problems start all over.

Observed on two different computers - partial presets created on each.

There is definitely a problem with trying to have a LUT as part of the partial preset. I have full presets with LUTs so, I don’t know what the problem is.

Update

I created a partial preset on the office PC (PL7.9) with the LUT set but turned OFF. The preset works.

Copied that preset (changing the version number to 18.1) to the graphics PC (PL7.5). The preset works, however, the LUT is turned ON and applied.

Why did you create two topics for the same issue? This one should be closed as a duplicate.

It is not exactly a duplicate, there is

  1. partial preset creation issue on one computer
  2. LUT problem with partial presets

Item 2 was discovered while trying to solve item 1

Clinical example of how NOT to report a problem.
Let others kill the rat.

I don’t recall, are you on Windows or a Mac. I am on Windows running PL 7.9 and PL 8. I just created a partial preset with a LUT set to Artic Ice, a Premium LUT, on both PL 7.9 and PL 8 and had no difficulties creating it. I then created another partial preset with a Custom LUT and that worked on both versions with no issues as well.

It’s close enough. I believe it would be more beneficial to you to keep this type of discussion in a single location.

Please provide relevant environment information and precise steps to reproduce the problem.

now, is this not more pleasant and friendlier than this?

“Clinical example of how NOT to report a problem.

The missing info in this post is Win 10 64bit on both computers; Office PC Pl 7.6 now 7.9; graphics PC Pl 7.5 - both Elite versions from the same install file. The LUTs are from DXO.

The partial preset creation steps are from Bryan Conner’ post here on this forum.

"In the Preset Editor, create a new Preset Folder and maybe name it “Curves” for example. With that folder selected, right click on the folder and choose “new empty preset”. PL4 will create a new preset, named “New preset” in that folder. You will have to rename it. Now, with your new preset selected in the Preset Editor, click on Edit, either at the bottom of the Preset Editor, or by right clicking on your new preset and choose “edit”. This will turn off every adjustment, with everything set to default settings, and you can now simply create your new tone curve.

Now, go to the curves adjustments palette and put a check mark in the little white box, this tells PL4 that this palette will be included in the preset. Next, simply create your curve that you wish, and then either click on the Edit button in the Preset Editor once more and then tell it to save, or you can right click on the preset in the Preset editor and choose save.

Now you have a preset that only makes the changes that were included. I think the process of doing this could be streamlined and made more user friendly, but that is what we have at the moment."

Have I missed anything?

So, not only do I have a partial preset with a LUT issue but also that the partial preset that I created behaves differently in regards to the LUT on each computer.

Again, I have full presets with LUTs that work properly.
