Over-sharpening and destroying skin

Hello, I just bought a license of DXO PureRAW and must say that i am not amused about the extent of oversharpening that’s happening to human skin. It creates crinkles. If I would see that in Capture One I’d no I’ve overdone sharpening and dial back a lot.

Is there in DXO PureRAW anywhere an option to dial back the amount of sharpening that’s taken place?

If not, I do need to say I regret having spent money on that software.

I am shooting with Sony A7 IV and tend to use Zeiss Batis lense for people photographie.

Looking forward to your replies

Press PureRAW’s “Export now” button to get this popup:

Experiment with settings (follow the arrows in the magenta frame) and see what you like.
I usually set “lens softness” to “Soft” as shown above, all other levels are too much imo.

@hbhbhb Even with the “soft” setting, depending on the subject matter in the photos, it may still look oversharpened in CaptureOne. But that is due to CaptureOne applying its default lens sharpening based on the lens used. CaptureOne doesn’t know that lens corrections have already been performed by DxO, so now you have a doubly sharpened image.

To fix, select all DNGs and go to the sharpening tab in CaptureOne. There is a preset called “No sharpening” which will turn off any sharpening. This should give you the proper result. If you still feel that it’s more than what you need, just turn off “Lens softness” in DxO PR before processing, as indicated in platypus’ screenshot.
