Optical Corrections

How can I tell if Photolab 6 has already applied optical corrections to a RAW?

Click on the Active selections button and all the tools that have been set with values will be displayed including all the optical corrections.

The optical corrections include,

  • Vignetting
  • Lens sharpness (if a lens profile is available)
  • Chromatic Aberration
  • Distortion
  • Volume Deformation (if you have a Viewpoint license)

My concern is that these items show up as “active corrections” even though all I have done is load the RAW file.

  • Vignetting
  • Lens sharpness (if a lens profile is available)
  • Chromatic Aberration

Which startup preset are you using in Preferences? Many presets will automatically apply all three of those corrections if there is a DxO Optics module loaded for the lens used.

If you don’t want to see auto corrections for Vignetting, Lens sharpness or Chromatic Aberration, modify your start up preset in the Preset Editor to deselect those features. Another alternative is to apply the No correction preset before you begin editing. No correction will remove any edits already applied.

I am curious why you don’t want these lens corrections automatically applied?

Make a virtual copy, apply “No correction” preset and compare it with your master file.

I made a copy of a RAW. Loaded the RAW and applied just optical correction (I could see the difference especially in vignette

).
Then I loaded the copy and applied no corrections.
Here are the resulting values.

Check ‘Auto-apply presets’ setting in your Preferences. I use ‘6 - No Corrections’ for both RAW and RGB iamges. You probably have ‘3 - DxO Optical Corrections only’.

I already have No Corrections set.
