Open PR in Photoshop

I think I have tried everything to open PR5 in Photoshop: Changed image to smart image, tried 8 and 16 bit image, tried right click, tried to open in plug in panel (PR grayed out), looked for way in presets…. I know I’m missing something. What is it? PE Nik 8 works find in PS. Thanks.

Hi Ken,
PR5 is not an option once you are in Photoshop. Once in Photoshop, your are not working with a RAW file, your are working with a pixel based image also known as a raster image. Photoshop itself cannot read Raw files which is why Adobe created the plug-in known as Adobe Camera Raw back around the turn of the century.

Even if you open a Raw file using ACR and subsequently click the Open button and view your image in Photoshop, until you actually save that image, the file still reads that it is a Raw file - note the file extension in the document’s title bar - but is still a pixel based image …

Hope this makes sense …

Hi,

Why don’t you do the opposite: you start with your RAW image in PR and export it as a Smart Object in PS. This will open the exported image in PS, and because it’s a Smart Object, at any moment you can go back to PR, change whatever settings you like and get it.back to PS.

Ian.
