I got an email this morning from someone posting on ON1’s forum that DXO 10 has no denoise engine and that ON1 is now the premiere tool for denoise-ing. Geez. I was under the impression that DXO in general had the best denoise engine.

Opinions on the internet are like … well, you know – everyone has one.
DxO denoising is an integral part of the demosaicking process. It cannot, as far as I know, denoise an RGB image.

Yeah, I don’t know what the ON1 poster was referring to. I only use ON1 for sky swaps.
Yes, PhotoLab can denoise an RGB photo (JPEG, for example)!
It obviously can’t use DeepPRIME or DeepPRIME XD3, which require a RAW file, but it does use the Standard denoising method, with chrominance and luminance adjustments.

As someone who has owned every version of ON1 since 2018, along with every version of PhotoLab since 2017, I can say with absolute certainty that the latest version of PhotoLab’s XD3 NR continues to far exceed the output quality of ON1 NR functionality by a very wide margin. This sounds like the person who said that is just an ON1 fanboy who either lacks the ability or the willingness to objectively see the difference in quality.
Over the years I only minimally used ON1, and kept it around primarily for a few features that it had that were not in PhotoLab and as backup software, if PhotoLab no longer met my needs. With the very significant feature growth in PhotoLab over the last few years, . ON1 even with its new features, continues to be inferior both with regard to its tool set and its output.

Yeah, I only use ON1 to swap out the sky. And on another note, I thought I would miss LR, as I had been using it for a long time, but I don’t. Aside from having to buy the PL10 upgrade (I’m on the trial right now) even though I am still paying off PL9 (I chose 4 easy payments), I was expecting a more lucrative upgrade path. So, I’ll wait until PL9 is paid off, hopefully by Black Friday, before I upgrade for real. I’m retired and sometimes money is tight.
I have no interest in composite photographs. I will remove distracting elements from an image if necessary, l but I don’t add elements to an image which were not there in the first place. Having said that, I did experiment with ON1’s sky replacement functionality a couple of years ago, and as I recall it integrated into the original image fairly seamlessly.
While I suppose that DxO might add sky replacement functionality at some point, I suspect that specific feature is not a high priority for them. I would expect some sort of generative AI feature enhancement to the repair tool before any sky replacement tool.
