I recently purchased a new laptop for video and photo editing and it comes with an OLED 100% P3 screen.
I have for many years used a Spyder Pro calibrator to calibrate my screens but this does not officially support OLED screens. I tried to calibrate my laptop and it proceeded fine but the screen did not match my WLED (White LED backlight) external monitor which had also been calibrated. The OLED screen was much bluer.
Well I thought it must be my Spyder so I purchased a Calibrite Pro HL which does support OLED screens. After calibrating the laptop there was still a difference and maybe even more bluer.
I searched the web and it seems that OLED screens produce much more saturated colours and will look different. I do think the OLED screen is more accurate as I always thought the WLED screen showed blue skies to be a little purple.
My questions to this forum is: Has anybody else had the same issue or noticed this difference in OLED screens? Also, has anyone managed to match OLED and WLED screens successfully?
FWIW I successfully calibrated my Dell Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED screen using an old X-Rite iDisplay1 Pro colorimeter (using the last software version offered by X-Rite before they sold off), and it matches my calibrated old Dell 24” wide-gamut IPS secondary monitor perfectly.
There are many pitfalls along the way (e.g. proper monitor OSD modes, settings, making the right choices in the software, etc.). I suggest trying again and following each step carefully.
You can also try the excellent free DisplayCAL software - no longer maintained but still works great.
What is interesting is the laptop screen comes pre-calibrated from the factory which includes a profile. The factory profile and my new profile are almost exactly the same. So I suspect my WLED screen is not able to match colours produced by my OLED screen.
I have a MacBook Pro M1 and a Studio Display : none with an OLED screen.
My X-Rite iDisplay1 Pro colorimeter could not find any différence with factory calibration.
I have also an OLED Sony TV ; for years, I tried to display my photos with a usb key and it was so bad that I renounced, until I got M1 that has the ability to give 4k pictures.
It was great !
So I tried the colorimeter and the Colors seems to me close to those of the Studio Display.
