Not recognising images in folders

,

I’m running Photolab v7.10.0, build 287. I’ve noticed that the application is not recognising images in some directories. The directories contain both files that haven’t been processed with Photolab and files that have. There are no filters being applied to the view, I’ve tried to re-install (repair) the application with no success.

This problem has only appeared since the last update.

Can you please advise if this is known issue or of any way to resolve it.

Thanks
Scott

Hi there.

The DxO browser do not look down into folders deeper than the top most directory.
If you have nested folders you need to dig down into each of them.

Could this be what you are experiencing?

You haven’t written about which OS you are on of these folders are placed locally or on a network device.
It might then be due to security permissions in macOS for example.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. The folder structure is flat and while it recognises some images in the folder, others, previously recognised by Photolab are no longer. In the affected directories, the browser is showing a white cross in a red background, it is affecting both RAW (,orf) and ,jpg format files. I’ve checked that the files are not corrupted using other software.

I’m running Windows 11 Pro version 23H2 on a Dell XPS 16 with Intel Ultra 9 CPU & Nvidia NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU with the latest drivers.

Scott

Close PL and copy this content (outside of PL) to another new folder. Then restart PL and check.

Will everything come back?

Hi Wolfgang,

Thanks for your swift reply. I’ve copied a directory where no images were recognised to a temporary directory on the C: drive and PL now sees all the contents. Another directory where only some of the files were not recognised was copied to a network drive and, again, all the files are now recognised.

Scott

This is normal because PL index all the new folders he finds.
Now you have to delete old files by PL to delete from the database.

You can also set PL7 (Windows) to

grafik
(don’t know how this works with MacOS)

and images added to a folder “open” in PL should be recognized.

Thanks Franky & Wolfgang. I’ve tried the live review as suggested but it hasn’t made any difference - I’m not sure that I want replace multiple directories with thousands of images to get around this, I’d prefer that the application worked as it had previously

I’ve just tried to refresh the view on a directory (F5) with some unrecognised files and PL has crashed - It may be related or it may not. I’ve sent the crash report through anyway (F8AF4B4C-4A04-47B6-9CBC-87A2FC5DF701).

Thanks,

Scott

If this only happens with that one directory, try the copy method … and delete the problematic directory once the new one works. Just make sure (with PL disabled) that there are no other unsupported files that you can’t see in PL.

Btw, I haven’t “connected” any images via network or NAS, which has avoided problems so far, but use backups via powered USB3 hub & external HD enclosures (ICY Box).

If in the future you want to create new folders, rename them or move images, make sure PL is running to ensure synchronization with the database.

Thanks Wolfgang, unfortunately the problem is affecting multiple directories. Some where no images are recognised, others where a subset of images are not recognised, I can’t discern any pattern. As I mentioned these directories had no issues previously. I can use the workaround for individual directories for now and hopefully the next update will solve it. Thanks for your help.
