I received an email from DxO touting several newly added film presets to DxO FilmPack 8, including CineStill 800T, Harman Phoenix 200, Kodak T-MAX P3200, and Lomography Color Negative.
I looked for these presets in the DxO FilmPack 8 section of the black and white and colour presets and only found Kodak T-MAX P3200.
Imagine my surprise when I saw only two BW Lomography presets in PL but five in FP, and one colour Lomography preset in PL but seven in FP?
Should I be expecting all DxO FilmPack 8 presets to show up in DxO PhotoLab 9?
There doesn’t seem to be a “round-trip” way to get to FilmPack from PhotoLab, so would I have to save a tiff file from PL, open it in FP, apply a preset, save in FP, then opn the result in PL?
All the FilmPack film renderings are indeed present in PhotoLab.
They may not necessarily be available in the presets accessible via the Apply Preset button,
But they are present in the Color/BW Rendering palette under Type: Color Negative Film - DxO FilmPack (or other) / Rendering: Cinestill 800 tungsten… (for example).
In order for PL to get new FilmPack features, PL needs to be updated.
FP and VP features are embedded in PL’s app and cannot be added by download, like optics modules.
DxO keeps apps “alive” by updating the current app and its predecessor. For PL, it’s one level more. This can be seen on a page that was published with the August updates.
@FrancisM Yes, you should have access to the same film simulations in both the stand-alone version of FilmPack 8, and from within PhotoLab 9. Please note that unless you are using a Fujifilm camera, that you will not have access to the Fujifilm digital simulations.
