Non destructive workflow for Affinity Photo 2

Hi

I’m using Affinity Photo 2 and the Nik 7 SilverEfex plug in.

In Affinity, I merge visible, and send to SilverEfex through the filters plug in, make edits in SilverEfex, and then Close and Send it back to Affinity.

Is there a way to maintain the edits done in SilverEfex so that when the image is returned to Affinity I can return back to SilverEfex and pick up on the same edit?

As it stands when SilverEfex send the image back to Affinity Photo I cannot continue where I left off if I send it back to Silver Efex. It sees it as a completely new image and doesn’t maintain the previous edits.

In the very right corner you can save your settings as a Preset,

name it accordingly and include your Local Adjustments.

to add:

When you start with Photoshop, you can convert a layer as “smart object”, use the Nik application (PlugIn) as “smart filter” … and re-edit.

But when you start with Affinity Photo, the option (Method 2) to trigger the conversion from within the Nik application is not available.

Thank you.

At a push yes, I can see how this could work.

If Nik 7 can’t retain the history because it’s lost when sent back to Affinity it would be useful if it could at least save it in a separate sidecar file so it can stay with the file rather than as an internal preset.

… quickly checked. Nik 7 SEP now comes with “Last Edits” (not sure about how many).

To make use of it, in AP you need to apply Nik on a copy / separate layer (to keep your “original”) – just like with the recipe / custom preset.
