Nik Collection 9 stopped working,

Hi,

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. I upgraded Nik Collection to v9 and it was running fine both as plugins and standalone. All of a sudden a week ago it stopped loading, all I get is a momentary splash screen for the program eg. Viveza etc. and that’s it. I have reported this to DXO support and carried out all their diagnostic requests including running the Cleanup Toool, uninstalls and reinstalls etc. and additionally my own but I’m no closer to a solution. I’m hoping that someone might have any additional suggestions as to what might be causing this problem.

Thanks and Kind regards

Leigh

This is the right part of the forum. Have you looked at the Windows Event Viewer to see if there are any Application or System errors that accompany the problem?

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your reply,. yes I have and there’s nothing related to NIK. So far I’ve tried uninstalling, NIK Cleanup tool, reinstalling with antivirus disable and as administrator several times both with windows add/remove programs and also REVOoUninstaller PRO, installing to a different drive, clean NVidia driver installs of several driver versions, running SFC, DISM, uninstalling any software that might have been installed after NIK 9., Windows update and virus and malware scans. I Might have found something relevant using Sysinternals process monitor which I’ve sent over to DXO support. I have crash dump files as well. This has gone on for more than a week..

Kind regards Leigh

I’m not getting anything back since they escalated this several days ago to their NIK Collection developers. I shall be requesting a refund as I cannot afford to waste £150 of my money. Previous versions have worked without any issues. They could at least provide me with an update on their investigations.

The guiding question in troubleshooting this is, what changed? It wasn’t the Nik Collection software, was it? This often isn’t an easy question to answer - and nothing should be ignored. Between the time Nik 9 was working for you and when it stopped working, did any Windows updates get installed? Is it possible to restore your computer to a previous backup point when Nik 9 was working?

(There are known problems with the May “Patch Tuesday” updates. Microsoft announced an emergency patch to address certain issues.)

Hi Greg, yes, I take your point. That’s why I removed all programs installed after NIK 9. I also checked and the last Windows update was well before the dat that I installed NIK9. Unfortunately I cannot restore my computer, Thanks for your help, I’ll have to see what DXO says else I’ll have to right off the money and remove NIK 9.

I have solved this by myself. I installed another piece of software and Just like NIK 9 it would install and then not run. Unlike NIK 9 it was kind enough to give me an error in Windows Application Event Log which pointed to a faulting DLL file. I realised that this was related to Microsoft Visual C++ so I installed the latest version of their Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable Somewhere between my original install of Nik 9 C++ must have got corrupted. I suggested that DxO might want to add this to their FAQ and/or support crib sheet. Hope this might help someone else faced with this problem. I remain very unhappy with DxO’s support, takes ages and, beyond their initial support replies doesn’t give any constructive advise. Their “developers” only made one suggestion and that was to delete the license file and re-install. I knew that wasn’t going to fix it as the progam didn’t even get as far as checking for a license file.
