New Studio driver out today December 4th
With NVS 591.44, event id 153 is still there…
When I get a crash as this afternoon just get a boring lockup and have to close with task manage. Do get rather a lot of crashes with 9 even with out using AI
I didn’t have much hope for quick resolutions, expecting them to come in March/April release. Affinity Photo2 has crash/image corruption issues with complex filters, including non-“AI” (afaik still not fixed) for NVIDIA drivers released after January 2025 (GeForce 50 series release). Hard to say anything about CaptureOne, since their forum is “temporarily” closed since February. Graphic drivers for Windows are hell complicated (timing, memory interactions, undocumented side-effects, multiple plugins) and probably some problems are on the MS side. Surely some bugs may be in DxO code, but for these kind of fundamental problems they were quick to respond. Obviously, the behavior of “black boxes” they use is out of their control, maybe just quick and dirty workarounds are possible (?). Maybe DxO should consider using CUDA interface only (but even with that DaVinci Resolve is said to have VRAM memory leak problems with some NVIDIA drivers), but then what about AMD and Intel, coupled with small internal resources? Note that NVIDIA is a 4T$+ company and MS hires 200k+ employees, many of which are highly technical.
And nVidia employees millionaires now, may they just don’t care anymore /sarcasm
Well, I don’t think that the greed explains it all – far too complex to discuss here. Note also that graphics driver interactions with Windows kernel/user space drivers are extremely complex, maybe too complex for humans to grasp. Perhaps it’s time for Microsoft to rewrite WDDM/KDM from scratch, teamed with NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel engineers. Probably they’ll not do it, because it still works, most of the time at least. Currently NVIDIA seems to be focused on datacenters, leaving the gamers to moan on their forums since about Jan 2025. Image editors are too small for NVIDIA to see, unless they are Adobe. Even BlackMagic has its problems with NV. Internally it may still be a very different story, so these are pointless speculations, hence I stop here.
