Wonder if it is possible to buy current version of DXO Photolab and also receive the Big Sur compatible version, as I’m currently using a 2013 Macbook Pro, but wish to update my hardware only next year… (extreme need + extreme delicate financial situation).
Would be great to receive a positive answer for this current Black Friday promo!
It’s a good question. Probably not, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. To reach DxO sales and support you will need to submit a ticket at support.dxo.com. Best wishes!
Your other option is to update the 2013 Mac to a recent version of macOS so you can run the current version of PhotoLab. To do this you need to use Open Core Legacy Patcher: OpenCore Legacy Patcher
You can probably push for a legacy license code, particularly as Big Sur is not particularly legacy. The installers are around somewhere. Minimum OS Big Sur allowed PhotoLab 6. PhotoLab 6 is where DxO decided to force upgrade all its users to the latest or latest -1 macOS. PhotoLab 5 allowed three OS (Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey). 6 allowed just Ventura and Monterey.
Thank you for the response, Uncoy. It helped me understand the upgrade policy, even though I can’t judge whether it’s right or wrong. There are certainly technical and financial reasons behind it. I’ve submitted the request to support, as suggested by Egregius… praying for a positive response!
Hey Drdul, thanks for your reply. OpenCore Legacy Patcher is an excellent tip, but unfortunately, I had a bad experience when I tried to update to macOS Catalina. My MacBook wouldn’t boot… I had to restore from Time Machine and found out that an external hard drive (not an SSD) is terrible… The restoration took 2 days… I’ll only be able to try again when I have the resources to buy an SSD case.
