While I don’t expect DXO PhotoLab 8 to support all older camera / lens combinations, is there a way to just get basic modifications done? Is there a generic camera / lens type that could be used? Wouldn’t be perfect but better than nothing.
I would like to keep things in DXO but if I have to, I’ll have to go elsewhere to “develop” those old CRW files.
The reason for this is that DxO’s defining features rely on the lab profiles they create from the real equipment.
Honestly, if PhotoLab didn’t have the PRIME series of noise reduction or the lens sharpness optimisation, lens distortion and aberration features, I’m not sure it would still exist.
But… there is a school of thought that says “treat this like an RGB image”. It’s just that they never have done RAW decoding without all the clever stuff.
I had the same issue regarding old D1 files. One reason to shoot raw is so that, when better software comes out, you can revisit those files and reprocess them. But it doesn’t help if the newer software doesn’t support older cameras. I guess there’s no money in it. Fortunately, as you and others have mentioned, free and open source software does support old cameras. I guess community support is better than paid.
