Due to there being little contrast between the black background of the histogram and the dark gray of the surrounding area, it is difficult to see whether the extreme ends of the histogram are clipped. Increasing the contrast between the histogram and surround area would make it much easier, perhaps with a light gray histogram background?

Yes. I understand and use the clipping indicators. Nevertheless, it would be useful to be able to see whether the histogram is abutting the extreme ends.
