In PhotoLab 6 I have a button called “Local Adjustments”. It is at the top of the window in the middle next to buttons such as red-eye and Hand.
In PhotoLab 8, on another machine, this button is missing. How do I bring it back ?
I have the “Local Adjustments” palette, just no way to create or add any masks.
The interface has changed in PL8 (actually, it changed in PL7 and the change persists in PL8), and there is no longer a big button in the top level menu called “Local Adjustments”. Instead the the Local Adjustments palette can be selected using the button in the top right hand of the right hand palette window as shown in the screen capture. (red arrow).
To create a mask you then select one of the mask types at the top of the Local Adjustment Palette (green arrow in image), which then allows you place a Control Point mask , add a Graduated Filter mask, Brush a mask etc.
The on-image set of controls that can be applied to the masked area have also been moved from the main image window to the Local Adjustments palette (Yellow arrow).
It takes a bit of getting used to if you’re used to the PL6 interface (and if you read the forum threads you’ll see some users really like the change and others really don’t). Either way, you’ll find you can do everything in PL8 you could in PL7, and more - as more mask options exist such as the Luminosity and Hue masks.
