Match ooc jpegs colors with the RAW file as a baseline

For more about Adobe DCP profiles, follow the discussions starting from here:

In my own limited experience, they’re not much better (if at all) than DxO’s built-in camera renderings. But they are worth a try.

… come with camera specific picture styles.
Other (linear) profiles come with negative Lab Pro.
Here’s a selection of results:

Left: Canon “Landscape” picture style
Middle: Negative Lab Pro profile
Right: DxO with preset “No Correction”
Note that images were standardised with the RGB tone curve in order to span the full tonal range without clipping highlights or shadows.

I consider DCP profiles to be applied before any other customising. These profiles create a starting point. A linear profile shows how much processing is in an image that is supposed to have no corrections. Of course, “No Correction” does exactly that: not correct anything that is wrong, but the manufacturers idea of what a default look should be is imprinted anyways. Over the last years, default looks have grown similar e.g. in DPL, LrC and CapOne.

Dears, I confess to having proposed this feature before. I got the explanation about how complex it actually would be to implement it. Also, a few months later, I don’t see the added value of my own request in comparison to these use cases :

  • If that camera jpg is so good, we can use it as the basis for further editing
  • if we want to tweak exposure and colour a lot, it is necessary to learn these tweaks anyway and when we master them, we don’t need the jpg emulation anymore.
    With many greetings
