Masking (and that's just the start!) problem

On our recent visit to Ferrara, we toured the Estes’ castle in the city centre. This has some very ornate ceilings, many of which are either under restoration (there was an earthquake in 2012) or have been earmarked for repair. See the extent of the ElastoPlast in this image:

Pretty much SOOC, apart from Deep Prime XD and the mildest sharpening in Topaz Photo AI.

My challenge to all the experts is to suggest an inclusive masking technique that maximises the selection of the Bandaids, and minimising the outside areas that will get selected for treatment.

I’ve no idea how to proceed after the masking, either; but unlike the poor sods who have to restore the freschi, at least I shan’t have to do it at the top of a ladder or lying on my back.

And yes, this is a photograph of the mirror placed there so you can see the ceiling. But the Bandaids also showed when I photographed the real thing.
