Mac Update Error

Mac update error “DxO PhotoLab can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaded to.” Seems like I’ve installed incorrectly. If I make a backup of DXO will it copy everything for example custom presets etc?

Follow up - If it is an installation issue, what did I do wrong? I am new to MacBook and actually bought it specifically for photo editing.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum @Moxie

Where exactly do you have your PhotoLab app?

Normally,

  1. you download the installer dmg file to a folder called “Downloads”.
  2. Then, you double-click on the dmg file in “Downloads” and a window opens:
  3. To install PL, you drag its icon onto the folder shown in the window and wait until done (takes less than a minute)
  4. Open the Applications folder on your drive (not the one shown above) and double-click on PL.

Hope this helps.

Concerning backups

  • Use Time Machine to backup your computer and everything will be saved, unless you exclude things manually
  • PL’s database backup menu item backs up the database only. Doing this manually every now and then does not hurt, unless your drive is really small (e.g. 256 GB), in which case you want to overwrite older database backups

That was it, I never moved the app, thanks much!!!
