Great idea! The cross-platform nature of the project worries me. How buggy is it? Apple has made it really hard for third party services like this to deploy at all, let alone reliably.
My vote for a quick fix here would be for DxO to allow users to customise shortcuts, adding almost every function (not just menus) to the list of actions which are allowed shortcuts. I’m not suggesting that DxO include default shortcuts for relatively obscure actions, but some users might use certain actions very regularly and would benefit from a specific shortcut.
A shortcut customisation screen is not an area where a new user would have to tread and it’s out of the way. DaVinci Resolve does custom shortcuts very well including them right under the application menu.
If DxO is that nervous about giving end users this power, enabling the custom shortcuts menu could be a preference.
Bonjour,
Most people who own Loupedeck products are not that happy with them. The first version looked promising but then Loupedeck kept cutting corners on manufacturing quality.
Some kind of API for easy use of external interfaces would be great.
More useful suggestion: try TourBox. It’s knob can easily work the sliders in PhotoLab. Really helps reduce carpal tunnel syndrome from holding a slider down on a big photo edit. No need for the Elite bluetooth edition. The cheaper cabled one works better on macOS (the bluetooth doesn’t auto-connect).
Hi @uncoy , thank you for this recommendation. How simple was it to set TourBox up to work with PL? Was this done though the TourBox software, or by other means?
You mentioned to not consider the Elite version, so are you referring to the ‘Neo’ model instead?
I’d be looking to use this on a Mac the majority of the time, but depending on need I may use it on a Windows laptop should I find myself out on the road for more than a couple of days at a time.
Many thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Thanks @uncoy for making us aware - whatever helps being more productive with PhotoLab is more than welcome.
As I hadn’t heard about Tourbox so far I did a little check on the tourboxtech.com website - and surprisingly there is an official DxO-Tourbox-setup available dated late June/early July 2024 … at least the creator of the preset is named “DxO PhotoLab Official”. (it appears also a user “DigiCampix” has spent work on providing a DxO PhotoLab setup).
To me this activitiy of DxO went entirely unnoticed as haven’t seen any note on the DxO website or in this forum on it.
@uncoy: Have you used the DxO-setup on your Tourbox as a starting point or have you done all by yourself with the help of the “TourBox Console” software?
They do not respond but probably read it, seing how they recently change their communication on their website to be more in line with reality and seeing some argumentation in their web communication.
Some aspects seem to correlate with some reactions on this forum.

Probably but having read it doesn’t mean they will act on it. Mind you, I suppose that’s also true of using the official support channel to submit a feature request.

Hello,
Different brand, same topic:
Why do they have « great » partnership with Adobe and not with DXO ?

Hi @StevenL just to make sure you guys are aware of this kind of tools.
I think expecting API integration from DXO is a step too far given the development resources needed.
However, DXO have added far more keyboard shortcuts in V8 particularly for Local Adjustments. This is a welcome addition and thinking of the old Pareto principle DXO could achieve 80% of the gains for 20% of the effort by expanding keyboard shortcuts to include sliders etc. This would enable the use of Stream-deck and Stream-deck Plus control pads and I would have thought that from a development resource should actually be doable.
Capture One uses this approach very successfully so it is not an “unknown” capability.
I have the Streamdeck Plus and found if you have programmed one of the dials to send left and right arrows and then if you click on a slider and turn the dial then the slider is moved.

I had a Chinese Pad that I liked on my old computer but when I upgraded to a new computer with Windows 11 it got incompatible.
Well, I thought it worked very well with Photolab and Capture One and it had its own interface that gave us an overlay over the different buttons and the functions mapped to them.
I also think the Help-system in Photolab today is very good. It is very close to help ("?) in every tool panel of the application. If I hoover over the “?” it gives a short general explanation and if I click on it gives us a detailed explanation for every tool under a specific banner. That is really OK for me.
I do understand that some people working with a physical hardware like this when working with video but I have had to see any gains as I use to work with pictures in C1 and Photolab. The pad below also seemed very focused on support for Adobe products.
For me it seems to be just another piece of hardware on my desk. I think I would have far better use of my table space with a Wacom Pad than a Loopdeck of any sort. Once in my youth I made ink drawings and using a drawing pad is a much more natural way for me since using local adjustment tools, retrouch tools in PL or the Style Brushes in C1 was perfect for me with the pad I had. I will buy me a Wacom pad instead again I think. That will suit me better
