Leeky goodness in the shadows

A plant commonly called a Three-cornered Leek.

I was coming off a nasty cold (3 weeks including a secondary bacterial infection) and needed to get out of the house, but not to strenuously. I drove to the local park and took my camera.

There were lots of these bright white flowers and as I crouched down to see which bloom I would pick out, I spotted the deep, deep shadow beneath the trees under which they were mostly growing.

There is very little processing on the image. Globally a slight boost to the midtones, plus the usual camera/lens corrections. Then three masks.

  1. On the flower to really boost the highlights, along with some more midtone boost and even a little on shadows.
  2. A patch on the broadest blade of green to tame a bright highlight.
  3. The background has a small exposure decrease (only -0.16) to crush a little bit of light that was back there.

Now, this is very similar to Wild Garlic (Ail des ours in French) This is wonderful to cook with as it imparts a subtle Garlic flavour without the overpowering taste of normal Garlic.

This is an image taken at Deepdale Beck in Yorkshire, with my Ebony LF camera…

Very low tripod position and wondering why I had an overwhelming desire for a pizza
