Jpg export from RAW results in soft image

On Mac OS Tahoe and PL 9.3.

After processing Raw files from Sony A7III, and exporting to jpg, the resulting images are soft. Raw files from Canon R5 are fine after export to jpg. Is there a known issue with Sony Raw files, and if so, is there solution?

Update to this post:

DXO have just released an update which includes a bug fix too address this exact issue. I can now export Sony Raw files to jpg without the aforementioned sharpness loss issues,

This may be related to a problem that has surfaced in 9.3

Several users have reported soft images on export, they look fine in preview.

It appears that some lens distortion settings are not being applied at export and perhaps some lens optimization or sharpening as well. These are leading to ‘soft’ images.

I believe the problem has been reported to DXO.

You couldn’t write it could you? Basic, basic stuff. Just a rush job done badly.

Thanks for the feedback.

Everyone who has the problem should report it. Bug reporting 101.

The issue may indeed be specifically affecting Sony files as I have experienced but if so not exclusively as it is also affecting my old Fuji files too.

Be nice if DxO could reach out on this though. Even an acknowledgment that they are investigating.

My intention for later. Want to try a couple of things first.

Well this leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I woke this morning to an update on my ticket:

It went on to suggest that I check the correct lens module was downloaded. I’ve never had to do this before with updates. It seemed a rather trite response, but I figured I would check anyway.

So I launched PL9 and was greeted with an update which contained the following in the text:

The problem is indeed fixed, but why on earth did they think that response to my ticket was warranted rather than “Try the latest update”?

Official response by DxO here …

My PL7 is fine, so that DxO statement is wrong, not really a complete surprise.

Are you using PL on Mac ?

No, on windows.

I learned a long time ago was that I never download updates immediately because software companies by and large have a 30/70 incompetence ratio - some more than others.

What I forgot was not to believe “influencers” on Youtube who have been bought and paid for and to take a trial first. So actually this whole debacle is my fault, I am the fool that bought it. I won’t make the same mistake again.
