JPG and .orf Files not shown in PL 8

I have spent a lot of time trying to find some images in .jpg and .orf format I was quite sure where was stored, but it was impossible to find them in PL. I have not moved them in anyway outside PL either.

In the end I used the command on the actual folder “Open in Windows Explorer”
There I could see the missing files, but it looks like it’s impossible to open them in PhotoLab even if I try to open them in PL from explorer or from within PL.

I have also not been able to make PL list them with a refresh or index command from within PL.

This is pretty frustrating and makes me wonder if this also could affect other folders.

Any idea of what I can do to make PL list all the files again?

I see this red marking after PL try to list files:

Filter?

My other folders seem to be OK also.

Maybe you have enabled some filter, like ‘Modified since last processing’, color labels, etc.

I dont think I can set a filter on only one folder?

In the end I made a copy of the entire folder in Windows Explorer. That folder has no problem in PhotoLab and everything seems to be OK there.

Now I’m afraid I have serious error in the PL database and have to make a new and reindex 70000 photos…

I just noticed the red cross in your browser. The only place I found it mentioned in PL Help is this, in the ‘Menus, Preferences and Functions’ section:

What happens if the database gets corrupted?
DxO PhotoLab displays a message that the database is corrupted
and that you should restart with a clean database.
The old database is backed up.

On a PC, DxO PhotoLab is able to start if the corruption is limited.
For example, if the corruption is in a particular folder,
a red cross will be displayed in the Image Browser
if you have selected the folder to view its contents.

Thank you for your help Wlodek.
The database corruption is probably the results of too many upgrades etc. during the time I was Beta tester for PL. Since I now have a working copy of the directory giving trouble and the rest seems fine, I will try to do without building a new database for now.

Hi Torstein,

I saw this thread/conversation last night but was way too tired, even though @Wlodek’s comment alerted me to the error message (17 images/red cross) …

Since your copied folder now appears as normal, it should be okay to delete the corrupted folder from within PL 8 to repair your database. Then restart PL to check.

If everything is OK, you can rename the working folder, or better yet, create a new one, copy your images, restart and check again … to then delete your “backup folder”.
