Is ClearView Plus too good?

@Wlodek cvp at +50? For global use? That’s strong for many images imo.
I rather use “stacking” cvp and mc local then a strong global setting. Much more control and you can feather the effects on on the places which are get ugly’er with cvp on higher amounts.
Controlpoints and controllines or brushes accentuate certain points in the frame or dehaze the places which need it wile leave the forground alone.
And then a touch of global cvp wile moderate the locals back if needed.
I am lately not much in dxopl due my new old house. Renovating.
But a local finecontrast would be great for finishing touch.

Sins the controlpoint/line has fine tuning in chroma and lumination you can be very selective in color and lightnes or just totaly not wich give lot of selection control.
And another advantage is every mask can be adjusted afterwards in strenght and opacity. And every small adjustment in many tools can be turned on/off to check it’s effects.

Well, why not? I make landscapes only for myself, so I don’t have to care about the public. When trekking through the mountains, the perceived views during midday are much stronger than what camera registers. Yes, CVP=50 often makes pictures “emotionally flat” but when they have no particular mood or topic, and are just snapshots to preserve memories, I often use it (but not always of course, e.g. I prefer to keep mornings “quiet”). But it’s always good to have a second look next day, what you already pointed out, or still better after few years, when you are already “disconnected” from the picture (WB is another thing you need often to rework the next day, because of that brain adaptation thing).

I didn’t say you coulden’t :slightly_smiling_face:, and me eigther only personal use.

I only tried to explain the risks of using CVP in strongerlevels for who arn’t aware of those artefacts and other things which are revealed and created when using CVP as a kind of default “sharpener”.

I have microcontrast on “auto” “magic want” symbol. So the optical module can set this accordenly to there lab tests for optimal sharpnes of the lens output.

And preset CVP at 15% (i think) so when i turn on the tool i get “step 1” instant.
Step 2 is 25% and often something in between 15-25 is a good result.
The places in the image who are needing more i use local adjustment. To ad some extra.

Personly i am liking strong contrastly images if they “strike a pose” if it’s “natural looking” is less important then the message behind the image.

But i am also guilty of whipping up a dull fainted capture with contrast en color tools… if you aint captured a good image fake it! Kind of spirit.

Take care.

Peter
