How to get the bleeping "show masks" checkbox to become active in PL 7?

Another newbie frustration I’m sure.

I place a control line and immediately want to turn off the color of the mask to be able to see the image so I can place the dropper. But the bleeping “show masks” checkbox that appears in the upper right of the image appears checked, and I cannot uncheck it (it is not active). I find if I mess about doing random things/adjustments (that I will eventually revert), suddenly (after a minute or 5) I’m able to deselect the show masks checkbox, place the dropper, and move on. What am I missing? Thanks!

I think you’re not missing anything (or I do too).
I only can uncheck mask preview button (or toggle the effect with M shortcut) after a change is done in some local setting (for example just move a little exposure slider). And then you can deactivate mask preview and be able to see color want to you choose and put your eye dropper on it ! There’s a bit of logic missing here, it seems to me. (Don’t use the hue wheel for activating this button for your case   ).

I would too like to be able to toggle this as soon as I need for any mask (not only this one).

I understand that DxO’s logic here is to enable you to immediately “see” the coverage of your mask - so that you can manipulate parameters that impact coverage before you start work on applying corrections.

To make the auto-mask “go away” - make a small change to any of the correction sliders … I do so by right-clicking to the left or right of the Exposure slider (which will shift the slider in the corresponding direction by +/- 0.10)

I’ve said it several times - this behavior is just annoying.

Let the user choose the mask view!

I agree. This “feature” when using the History is a real pain.

If you make some changes then back track using History to see the before and after of that change - Well, you can’t because the mask is in the way!!

Ok, thanks gang. For once its not (only) me. Tweaking the exposure causes show masks to turn off on its own. There are a few other sliders that do not turn it off or enable the checkbox to be selected tho… I just need to learn all the secret handshakes.
