How are the plug-ins for FilmPack and ViewPoint updated in PhotoLab? Standalone applications are NOT installed

My question is actually already in the thread title.

I know that FilmPack and ViewPoint are integrated into PhotoLab and are activated using a license key. That’s what I did:

But I never thought about how FilmPack and ViewPoint are actually updated. Can I assume that this happens automatically when PhotoLab is updated?

Thanks,
Manfred

You are right. They are not plugins. They are hard-coded into PL and are updated via a PL update.

Installing the standalone apps is totally optional, depending on your third party apps.

Got it, thanks Joanna.

As @Joanna indicated, the features are already in PhotoLab and ready to go. Licenses for FilmPack and ViewPoint unhide them so they can be accessed.

When PL is updated, I assume the FP components are updated based on the FP version that is licensed. For example, I currently have PL8 and FP7. If I upgrade to PL9, but not FP8, the subsequent PL9 updates will only pull in any updates to the older FP7?

@gvl

updated to PL9 (now 9.2) and am still using FP7, for which I have a license.

Subsequent PL9 minor updates will probably contain also all updates to FP7, FP8, VP4, VP5, but the features presented to you will depend on the licensed version. When new PL update comes, you may check FP and VP release notes for possible new features there.

For example, if you decide to buy FP8, you don’t have to re-download PhotoLab – all you have to do is just enter the new license (and perhaps restart PL).

Thanks, Wolfgang and Wlodek.
