Historical Context - Upgrade Grace Period?

Hey folks. I’ve reached out to DXO support… unfortunately they weren’t very helpful as they’re trying to be noncommittal on this subject. (I fully understand this)

I am a new user and I purchased PL, FP and Nik just 3 days ago. This morning, I was doing some reading and discovered that PL8 is impending. This was verified by support this morning (without giving a specific date).

So what I’m asking is… HISTORICALLY, how has DxO handled such situations? I mean, at this point, I’d love to cancel my order of PL7 and just wait for 8… but that is not possible.

Not asking for anyone to promise me something they’re not sure of… I’m just asking has anyone experienced a similar type situation in the past and how did DxO resolve it for you?

Warmest regards,
Tom

Have you read this FAQ?

It doesn’t say you’ll get a free upgrade to PL8 but it does say you’ll be given some sort of special offer providing you purchased within whatever DxO deem to be just prior to the next release and you have opted to receive their marketing emails.

Thank you for the link. I had not seen that.

Tom

The new version of PhotoLab may be released within the next week or two. Since you only purchased PhotoLab 7 in the last few days it is entirely possible you may be entitled to a free upgrade If the new version is released very shortly. However, once it goes past a month after your purchase, you will not be entitled to a free upgrade based on historical precedence. It is difficult to say what the current policy is though.

Thanks for this info. I think that sounds very fair. I’d be ok with that.

I know I did stress in my post the need for you to be signed up to their marketing emails but I’ll repeat myself, to get any offer they may offer, you need to be signed up to receive their marketing emails.

I say this because I’ve a feeling there’s been at least one user in the past who’s posted here because they were upset that they didn’t get any special deal and DxO had no sympathy, because the user wasn’t signed up to receive marketing emails.

They are not very forthcoming with regards to free upgrates so I have idea if they will honor it this year.

Mark

Thank you for the reminder. I did notice that in your post… I just double checked and it says I’m sub’d to the newsletter.

I also have an open service ticket on the issue.

Thanks for this. I have a numerous email exchange with an open service ticket this morning.
The person ‘assured’ me that I’d be taken care of SOMEHOW but they weren’t comfortable telling me just how. Just asked me to be patient until the release and that they’d keep the ticket open (also, that they were the only person who dealt with these issues).

So I’m gonna take it at face value and see how this works out.

If it’s not a happy ending for you then all might not be lost…

Outside of people like you who’ve bought PL only a very short time before the next release comes out, DxO considers ‘current users’ to be those with the latest or previous version, i.e. now PL6 and PL7 and after PL8 is out, PL7 and PL8.

Assuming DxO don’t change that policy then you could consider skipping the upgrade to PL8 and waiting for PL9 this time next year as you’d still be eligible for a ‘current user’ discount, which is on top of any launch (or Black Friday) discount available to new users.

Thanks again, everyone.

It was, indeed, a happy ending.

Kudos, DxO.

Did you get a free upgrade?

Mark

Indeed. I literally had an activated license for a total of just 5 days. DxO took care of me and was more than fair in this specific situation.
