As a new PL8 user I am a bit horrified about the lack of user-re-assignable keyboard shortcuts.
I have found a partial workround which may help some people, and I couldn’t find mention of it on these pages, so here it is.
I have a Logitech MX keyboard, and it comes with software that allows you to assign hot keys uniquely for each application. Any key assignment you make has no effect outside of the specified application.
I suspect that the software works with many other Logitech keyboards, and perhaps other keyboard manufacturers do something similar.
Worth a look if, like me, you were struggling with the shortcuts.
Keyboard Maestro works wonders on macOS with keyboard shortcuts, and also allows advanced users to build macros in third-party programs (like Photoshop Actions) and even across programs. What AppleScript was supposed to be (Keyboard Maestro can also run and link with AppleScript scripts).
Some people experiment with remapping the spacebar for practice or gaming purposes. In cases where shortcuts are fixed, external tools or apps that focus on measuring spacebar speed can be helpful. One example is a tool where you can Play Online and test how quickly the spacebar can be pressed, even across different time intervals. It shows how custom key assignments or endurance challenges affect performance.
