Guess I’m the only person who dislikes this guy

Is he really an editing expert/pro?

Whether one likes a person or not is totally one’s own business.

That being said, I looked into the video and left after a short while, because info/content is buried in a lot of chattering and gesturing…something that I see as fairly common these days. See more of the presenters than of the items they talk about?

Ironically, by posting the video here you’re giving its author an audience.

Personally, I have no time for such videos, regardless of who makes them. As a preacher, I’ve learned it’s important to choose a message, stay on that message, and get to the point quickly. Most of the time, people don’t need more than that, unless one’s true aim is something else - such as entertainment or education.

Oh boy… now I’m guilty of watching this video and thus, supporting this clown’s platform.

“Look at hhhhooow Photolab processes photos differeeeently than Photoshop (*Lightroom)”…

Yeah no sh… Sherlock, they are two different software!

Influencers

I sort of automatically filter out mannerisms and marketing stuff. I find some of his points valid, but his “proofs” look wrong. His edits look weird. Loss of time, blacklisted.

Off-DxO:
Now, how about this:

What’s funny, I found this link in a post by Eric Fossum: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/67501823

From my POV, he doesn’t even know some of the most fundamental features in PL8.

Based on the anecdotal fluff presented, that would seem unlikely. Maybe he knows Lr.

yup that was point i was trying to make

I think his primary line is selling Lr presets.

He’s on the Internet and posting on a ‘Soshal Meja’ platform so everything he says must be true, right?

:innocent:

Clickbait guy with low quality reviews. Not worth watching- I also don’t like his stuff.

Another thing that makes me shut down demonstrations of software on the spot is when these guys of nervousness can’t stop themselves from spinning around the mouse marker on the screen because they just can’t stop these very irritating irrational mouse moves they are constantly doing.

When will they ever learn that when we sit there trying to follow these irrational mouse moves, in order to figure out which ones of them that might be rational, we at the same time often totally will miss what the whole thing is all about.

This is elementary presentation technique.

Don’t argue on the guy behavior to say what he says is wrong. This is neither an acceptable nor convicing argument.

What’s seems obvious is that this guy seems to be talking nonsense on 2 important points : his knowledge of photolab and the way (method) he compares things.

Some (only some !) examples :

  • Hue mask :it’s no that different than hsl tool
  1. What the guy doesn’t know or volontary omit to say is that Hue mask combine with brush and eraser tools. And this is a big difference : hue mask is a masking tool which allow to create selections HSL tool can’t or can’t as easily - even masked with a brush mask, my experience !
  2. Since it is a mask it can use any existing and FUTURE tool avalaible for mask and not only HSL tool possibilities, wich HSL can’t.
At least the guy admits here that it is possible to use more adjustment with this mask tool than with HSL tool, but HE (when he says YOU) does not need them.
What about micro-contrast for example ?
  • subscription model :the price is high compare to adobe subscrition and that’s only ok for people who do not like adobe company” (nearly suggesting this is only some attitude related to feeling).
  1. Here he just omits the major agument in favor of a permanent licence against a subscription model : with a subsription model, already done job is held hostage by the fact that you’ll have to pay for the rest of your life to be able to access it.
  2. He omits too that (so far) you can upgrade every 2 years and keep promotionnal advantages if you want to reduce photolab price, and old versions are updated long enough when new cameras and lenses modules appears and for some debug things too (not for new tools of course).
  • denoising PL/LR comparison :
  1. About the name of the tool : “XD2s where do they come up with this name” : criticizing the name of a tool is not an argument but only denotes the will to do anything to denigrate PL.
  2. But really important is what the guy does : he uses default PL denoising values and send this image to compare.
Doesn’t he know that PL denoising has several sliders to adjust denoising, that there are several denoising modes and that denoising has often to be tweacked with lens softness to get desire/best results ?
For example if he wants more noise left (as he says), why doesn’t he do it but uses default values ? !!! There are several ways to do it with DPL noise reduction. Then he could compare !!!
  • Other example :
I won’t try to understand how he made it’s presets who lead to awfull result with it’s view of a pontoon against the light on a stretch of water since he does not really show what he did to get a such result. He states that it is horrible (and yes it is) because of photolab and not because of it’s awfull settings and pretend somewhere he knows what he does as the only argument.

  • And so on.

Some things he says are right, but generally, this is a suite of false arguments and comparison of not comparable things because of the way he does all this and uses tools.

My thoughts :

It seems that adobe is currently counter-attacking the very bad atmosphere that has prevailed against them in recent months and a probable flight of some of its users …
Seeing, for example, certain influencers (not this one) devoted to software like darktable suddenly turn around and praise adobe leaves no doubt in my mind.
And as usual all these guys, like this one, start by saying of course they’re not paid by adobe …
I’ve worked with enough ad agencies involved in viral internet advertising to know the drill.

If one could get it’s raw files, I would really like to see how it’s examples could be handled by PL and would really like to process them myself (but I do not want to subscribe to it’s channel to ask him this - and I would be surprised if he provides them).

Yes, as if these ‘experts’ come from the same family with a fixed idea of self promoting through stereotype gesturing and rubbish. They like to call themselves professionals and experts. Fortunately they can be spotted in a second and a thumb-down can be left in an attempt to let them improve the show. At least he’s not wearing an idiotic hat.

If you think I’m going to watch this you are wrong. Promotion comes in many different forms and this is what it is.

Fortunately, the people has different importance order. Some prefer the quick use, some the image quality and some a lot of other features.
This guy compared some features, not all. Of course, his arguments are true - from his point of view. The video viewers can decide how to use the information.
