FP8: modification lost when image reopened in Photoshop

Hello,
I am trying to solve an issue more or less similar to the issue described in Saving Image Seetings

1/ In Photoshop, I create a “smart object” to edit my image in FP8
2/ In FP8, I modify the image (colors, contrast etc)
3/ I close FP8 and the modifications appear as expected in Photoshop
4/ If I reopen FP8 from the smart object, all modifications are lost

The only solution I found is to save the settings in a preset in FP8. However, If I modify any setting without saving the result, the modifications will be lost after reopening.
This issue was not present in the previous versions of FP.

Any help/advice appreciated!

Thanks !

Michel

I reported this issue as a bug last night, no response from support yet.

It makes FP 8 virtually useless.

Win 11 24H2, i9 14900 cpu Nvidia RTX 4070ti GPU 581.57 studio driver.

hi Richard,
thank you!
yes, very annoying bug…

Confirmed it also fails when only FP is in the Smartobject, when the image is colour and also corrupts adjustment layers above the Smart obj.

Reported to Tech support…

Confirmed that this is still an issue in FP 8.2

Tech support still “working on it”… after 1 mo.

If anyone else sees this issue, Pl report it to Tech support (when you reopen FP in a Smart Object it reverts to the default settings, not what you set it to and saved previously).

I’ve tried your scenario with old PS and FP 7.19 (can’t speak for recent PS or FP8).
You noted “The only solution I found is to save the settings in a preset in FP8”.

  • You save your settings as preset, if you want to return later.
FP 7 has no permanent history.

  • As long you are in the FP session
→ hit (multiple times) < Ctrl + Z > (= Undo in win) to get back to FP default
→ simply close FP without saving

This issue is not about saving settings, which is not a practical solution.

Simply, FP8 does not work properly with SmartObjects.

The whole point of SO’s is that you don’t need to do this.

NIK Coll (and many other adjustments) work fine, reopen the SO and your individual settings for that image are preserved, FP does not do this.
