Filmpack films (some) not showing up in PL recipes

Hello, first post here so please go gentle on the newbie. :wink:

I’ve owned PL & FP for several years now, but must admit to not using PL much owing to the curves being so difficult to handle; choosing to use another software as a DAM and primary editor, passing on the image to FP when needed. As things stand, PL8 has really done a great job with the curves this time around, and I may just be upgrading my previous license.

One thing I observed however (dunno if that existed in previous versions too) is that not all the FP films (I own FP7 btw) show up under the recipes tab. Don’t know how many, but here’s one for example - Cinestill Redrum 200. It doesn’t show up in any of the categories under “Apply Preset” tab, nor does it show up in the Preset Editor. It however shows up - as it must - in the “Color/BW Rending” under the subtype “Color Negative Film - Dxo Filmpack”

I’m not sure what’s happening here; surely PL should show up all the built-in films in FP in the recipes; it’s the fastest way to start one’s editing session if one has a visual base to start with. Is this a bug, or is it that PL doesn’t show all FP films under recipes by design? If it is, it’s kinda strange. And it makes me wonder, just how many films don’t show up as recipes, which is a shame as I’d like a visual preview without having to go hovering over each film in the Color/BW Rendering tab

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I’m running on Win 11, btw.

I don’t have FP7 so can’t say how it behaves with PL8.

But isn’t it possible to create missing presets if there are any ?

Yes, it is. But I’d haveta go making a list of ALL the films that don’t show up in the recipes (a tedious process). THEN, load that film into the Render tab. THEN, save it as a recipe. Bloody tedious I’d think.

Try this one and adapt to your needs.
Cinestill Redrum 200.preset (359 Bytes)
Content:
Preset = {
Settings = {
Base = {
ColorRenderingType = “NegativeCineStillRedrum200”,
GrainSizeAuto = false,
GrainIntensity = 100,
GrainSize = 1,
GrainActive = true,
ColorRenderingIntensity = 100,
GrainFilmFormat = “24x36”,
ColorRenderingActive = true,
GrainType = “NegativeCineStillRedrum200”,
}
,
Overrides = {
}
,
Version = “19.0”,
}
,
Version = “11.0”,
}

Maybe. But you’ll have to do this only once. A one-hour job ?

FilmPack Color films presets basically set the rendering type and grain. You may prefer not to use grain.

Thanks, but a truer rendering would be to just select the film from the “Rendering” tab, and then save that as a preset. But still, why should it be that way? Shouldn’t all the films in FP show up as presets, considering many(?) do?

Maybe the FP presets were prepared for FP6 release and didn’t get updated with new renderings in FP7? You can find the list of new renderings introduced in FP7 in the FP release notes. These included 18 Nikon Digital renderings (N-*) and the following:

Fuji Digital color rendering:

  • Nostalgic negative

Color Negative Film renderings:

  • Cinestill Redrum 200
  • LomoChrome Metropolis 200 (2021)
  • Lomography Redscale XR 200

B&W Negative Film renderings:

  • Lomography Berlin Kino B&W 400
  • Lomography Earl Grey B&W 100

Thanks, will check if these are indeed the issue.

…before we say that it’s a Win-specific issue, let me point out that the ± 300 presets of FilmPack and PhotoLab are difficult to find because they are buried in the respective category folders.

In DPL8 on macOS, Cinestill Redrum 200 can be found here:

Having all presets in one flat folder makes for a lot of scrolling.
You can still e.g. get a list of favourites by dragging a built-in preset to a new folder. PhotoLab (Mac) does create a copy and I suppose that PL on Win will do that too.

Funny, on PL8.1/Win11 it’s not there. Looks overlooked. :wink:

Bingo! Not there.

Boring work, but here you go. All PL8 (Mac) presets:
All Presets.zip (391.3 KB)

Not all might work, specially if there’s no license for FilmPack :wink:
