Exporting to achieve specific size

I want to use photos as wallpaper on MacOS and I need to create files that match the exact screen resolution so that MacOS does not crop them.

The only export option I found that might allow this is “Fit”. However when I select a conversion from my original file (6000x4000 cropped to 5158x3438) to 4K (3840x2180) I end up with a file that is 3270 x 2180. Is there some other export parameter I need to change or is this just beyond the capabilities of PhotoLab?

First, crop the image to the screen ratio, in pixels. The, export the cropped image, resizing it to the screen size in pixels.

An automated process would be really helpful. If I have to crop, export, then uncrop 20-100 images it gets a little tedious. I think I will just endure the cropping that MacOS is doing while I look for a better solution. It sounds like I am pushing PhotoLab beyond its intended functionality.

And that’s correct, because the aspect ratio of the image has been retained.

If the result was actually 3840x2180 then the image would appear “stretched”.

Try setting a custom crop ratio that matches your target exactly in pixels. Then export at “100%”

You don’t have to uncrop after. One solution is to create virtual copies of those images you want to crop, set the crop on those, then export the VCs. This will leave the original untouched and you can decide whether you want to delete the cropped VCs after.
