Exporting Iphone 17 DNG files from PL9

I am having issues exporting iPhone 17 ProRaw files back to Lightroom as a DNG file. I get the error message:

I believe you need to export as TIF and not DNG.

I experienced the same thing and same error when I tried to export an iPhone 15 Pro ‘raw’ (DNG) file that I had imported into PL9 (which I had just bought) hoping to use DeepPrime DeNoising. Could not export it back out as a DNG. Only Tiff, jpeg and something else which I don’t recall at the moment.

The reason I learned was that the iPhone software already processes some corrections or does something within the iPhone software to the RAW DNG even though it saves the file as a RAW file, a DNG. So, DeepPrime would not work since the DNG file had been altered in some way before you tried to do something with it in PL and then attempted to export it back out as a DNG. But, for example, an unprocessed NEF RAW file from my Nikon can be opened and exported back out of PL9 as a DNG just fine. Yes, you can open the iPhone RAW in PL9 but not export it back out as a DNG.

I am surely not explaining this correctly since I don’t understand the issue completely. All I can say is there’s nothing wrong with your system. I experienced that same issue with my MacBook Pro M1 and now M4 Pro. Others might be able to explain this better.

Yep! You are correct!

Thanks James. I did see that the Denoise and sharpening controls were not operable with a ProRaw file. It appears that the DNG file that is created when opening in PL9 is not compatible for export, to Lightroom or even to a disk. It must be exported as a jpeg or tiff. Also, it must be Apple RAW file to even open in PL9. I tried an image that was shot using Adobe’s Indo project, which removes all Apple processing but PL9 could not open it. For now, I will export as a tiff.
