Export to DNG or TIFF fails with red exclamation mark (internal error)
Is there a an issue, or am I doing something wrong?

No definitely not disk space. BTW export of jpg fine. Other exports DNG format where there is no AI also were fine.
This is my first use of pl9, previously using pl8
Checked with pl8 everything okay.
I closed my archiving DAM and then I was able to export using pl9. Perhaps DAM was locking something.
Anyway now exporting fine.
Update:
I’ve exported photo with DAM open, and all worked fine. I don’t know what “gremlin” was stopping export previously…!

I believe this is a known issue with PL9. I don’t have PL9.

Raise a support ticket with DxO. The more reports they have the more likely it will be fixed sooner.
If you used any of the ‘preset’ AI masks to select sky/subject/background/etc. then yes, failures with those features is a known issue. If though you created an AI mask by a simple point-and-click then failures are still possible but much less likely.
You don’t give any specs for your machine. If can give those details, especially what GPU you are using, you will get further comments.
If its ‘solved’ , may not a bad idea to to like change the title of the thread to note its works, solved, etc. Like: ‘Solved -DAM lock files’
