Error when check for updates - Also, what is current PL7 version?

Hi,

It looks like I currently have PL7 7.7.2 (on Windows) but when I try to do Check for Updates, I am getting a popup error that says: “An error occurred while verifying the update status.”.

Does anyone what might be causing that error? Also what is the most current version?

Thanks,
Jim

There have been license activation problems with v7.7.1 and v7.7.2 perhaps a link with this.
The current version for Windows is v7.8

As @Franky has already said, the latest version of PL7 for Windows is v7.8.0 build 254.

If the ‘check for updates’ option on the Help menu is giving you an error message, log in to your DxO Shop account and download the latest version from there.

Hi,

Ok, thanks I was able to get the download as you mentioned, but I’d really like the check in PL7 to work, because it normally would check every time it starts, and FYI, I am STILL getting the same popup error after I’ve updated it to 78.8.0 build 254 :(, so I assume the automatic check at startup is not working either.

Jim

Hmm, yes, that is odd. When I check for updates via the help menu I get a message about PL being up to date.

Have you rebooted your computer since you installed the update to v7.8.0?

I just tried after I rebooted the machine and get the same popup.

FYI, the popup text mentions a problem connecting. Does anyone know what the URL is that PL7 is trying to connect to?

Thanks,
Jim

Haven’t had this error message, but consider wiping out the current install, and re-installing often clears out some old file that hangs up.

This has worked for me with other unexplained errors, both with PL and with other software. Running a Windows-based PC, so this is a “common” fix, especially if updating software over an existing version when not everything is cleared out.

I don’t know the URL PL is trying to reach but there is at least one more thing you can try, before you go for the nuclear option as suggested by @swmurray

Now that you have the latest version of PL7 installed, re-run the installer. When you do that you should get a dialog that looks like the one in this post:

Choose the repair option. When it completes, reboot and see if that fixes the update error.

I uninstalled and rebooted then installed the latest and still get the same error :frowning:

stuck,

I just tried rerunning and select repair - I did NOT get the dialog you mentioned, and it finished the repair and I still have the same problem (check update fails).

I’ve gone ahead and submitted a problem via the DXO website.

One other thought might be your security software, but, other than disabling, not sure how to check.

Contacting support is probably more prudent.

Hope they can sort it out.

I do have a VPN on the machine but I get the same popup even if I turn the VPN off.

Haven’t heard anything back from DXO support yet.

Thanks,
Jim

BTW here’s the popup I am getting:

Also, one thing I noticed if when I click “Check for updates”, that popup occurs almost instantaneously… so it’s not like PL7 is trying to connect out, waiting, then timing out… instead it literally shows the same popup as soon I I click “Check for updates”!!

Check if your firewall is blocking PL.

KeithRJ,

It looks like you are on the right track (but a little confusing situation)!

So I turned off VPN AND all 3 levels of firewall and then the Check for Updates worked!

I tried a bunch of combinations of firewall off and VPN off, but at the end (and this is the confusing part), Check for Updates now works with all levels of the firewall being ON AND the VPN being ON :(!!

It’s like whatever was causing the Check for Updates to fail had some kind of statefulness behavior, which I haven’t been able to identify.

Thanks,
JIm

Good to hear :+1:t2:
