Eraser tool for removing based on background

Hello

I would like to know if there is an eraser tool that erases while taking the background into account, as in PS with AI, and not as DXO does by copying a selection.

Thank you in advance.

I don’t know how PS takes the background into account.
An example ?

Pascal

An AI-powered eraser tool that understands the background is definitely more efficient for complex edits. Traditional clone-based methods can look patchy, especially on textured or gradient areas. Something closer to Photoshop’s content-aware approach would save a lot of manual adjustments.

Thanks for your feedback.

I don’t use PS anymore, but I’ll try to explain with an example. In this photo, I would like to remove the chair with PS, which would remove it, refine the outline of the statue’s pedestal, and match the color of the wall to the rest of the wall.
Here, it just copies, and the result isn’t great. https://photos.app.goo.gl/zd2ZX4CFRois1Eek7 (I don’t know how to post a photo here!!!)
I hope that clarifies things.

In this cas, proceed in two times.
When the area to be erased is at the edge, the feathering should be set to 0% to avoid any ghosting.
If the edge of the mask inside the image needs to be blurred:
– Draw a first mask in the form of a thin border along the edge of the image.
– Then draw the desired mask on top with the correct feathering value.

Pascal

Thanks Pascal,
I think I understand. By creating several masks one after the other, I can finally get something right :+1:.
Have a great day.
PS: It’s not easy to switch from one software program to another, but DXO Lab seems more accurate than LR to me.

The PL repair tool has no AI, so it is more rudimentary in that sense. However it is not useless. By looking at the interface you can see there are several options. I suggest you look at a tutorial on how to use it because with some tricks you can get a lot done. The best approach is usually not to fix in one big selection but to do things by pieces Here is a video that can help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey1W4KPIfQw

Hello Martin,

Sorry for the late reply, but as I don’t speak English very well, I had to watch this video several times before I fully understood everything.

Indeed, making small adjustments does yield better results. However, for the example I showed, it remains very difficult.

Let’s hope that DXO will use AI to make a replacement based on the background, as with PS.

Thanks again, and have a great day.
