DXO PL8 Crashing after MAC OS Update

After updating to MAC 15.3, PL8 keeps crashing, NIX completely disappeared from PS.
I created.a ticket, just curious if anyone else is having the issues(s).

I’m running 15.3 on a M1 and PL 8.1.0 build 35 without problems.
Updated to PL 8.2.1 build 38 and no problems.

Elite version with VP5 and FP7.

Try reinstalling PL8 over the current version using the repair option.

Thanks, but I don’t see the repair option?

The repair option is apparently only available on the Windows version. It appears that on a Mac to repair a DxO PhotoLab 8 installation you need to uninstall PhotoLab and reinstall the latest version using your license key. This will repair any corrupted installation files. There is, of course, no guarantee that this will fix the issues you are having.

Thanks Mark, did a reinstall of both NIK and PL 8, all ok so far!

Do you know why reinstallation helped?

I never had to reinstall any software for 30+ years unless installation went wrong say, due to insufficient rights, or lacking disk space, or disk “dying”. I would check system logs for disk errors, but I’m on PC, so I can’t help with that. Mark (@mwsilvers), what other reasons do you know which might have caused the problem (other than mistakenly deleting “system files” or making errors in registry/sysparams editing )?
Maybe there’s a hidden problem here, which may re-appear?
EDIT: OK, problem happened after OS upgrade, so you’ll never know the reason

I am really glad to hear that. I hope it stays that way.

File corruptions can occur for a variety of reasons. Thankfully it doesn’t happen very often on Windows. The reason I was familiar with the Repair feature was that I had a problem with PhotoLab a few year back, although I have no recollection of how the problem manifested itself. Running the repair fixed the problem for me so when others report problems with crashes and other serious issues I often suggest running it. It certainly won’t fix every PhotoLab issue that’s reported, but there is very little effort required to run it and it is worthwhile eliminating file corruption as a culprit.

On PC you may run into problems when installing from the wrong account. Basically, you may run it from your own account, or as an Administrator. Depending on software and Win version you may run into different problems, take older VP or FP standalone versions, as an example. But these problems should be noticed during the installation or first use. In OP case, perhaps OS upgrade caused some access rights issues (?), e.g. due to changed security policy, but I know nothing about Macs. Win11 24H2 update is known to cause many problems with previously installed software/hardware (I feel lucky, had few so far), so maybe the problem is similar here?

Re-installing DxO software on macOS helps in most cases. But sometimes it doesn’t and other measures need to be taken. It’s always a good first shot to re-install before doing anything else.

PhotoLab is fairly robust as far as installation is concerned. Just drag the app to where you want it (and the /Application folder is not the only place one can use) and it will copy the necessary by-files to the right places. MacOS does the rest in registering the new app. Everything can be deleted easily too, everything except the entry in macOS’ system report - which seems to be meant for documentation and of no importance as far as DxO software or absence thereof is concerned.

Example: Currently, I’ve not installed the Nik Collection, but the system report lists a lot of installation related activities nevertheless:

Thanks for all the detail info. Reinstalled both NIK and PL8, all good, no crashing, very painless.
