So with the new Pure RAW 5 coming out soon, does that mean DXO8 PL will get a free update with RAW 5 since I just recently purchased it?
Yes, that’s what DxO announced.
Can you share a link?
The official DxO announcement of PR5 does not mention PhotoLab.
Neither does the DxO press release, as published by DPReview at The latest DxO PureRaw allows for even more precise adjustments: Digital Photography Review .
No link but this has been mentioned in an email sent to a customer. See this thread :

However, I couldn’t find any copy of the press release mentioned by mrcrustacean. We have to ask where he found it.
It looks like it came from CP+ in Tokyo on Feb. 27. Also in the introductory announcement at dxo.com, according to word-of-mouth online. I’m pretty sure I saw it there myself a few days ago, but it isn’t there now. Did I imagine that?? DxO might have erred in an early copy of the press release.

DxO Announces DeepPRIME 3: A New Breakthrough in AI-Based RAW Image Processing
Hello,
We are excited to share DxO’s latest breakthrough in RAW image processing: DeepPRIME 3, the next generation of our AI-based denoising and demosaicing technology. Announced today at CP+ in Japan, this new evolution sets a new industry benchmark by seamlessly integrating RAW image demosaicing, noise reduction, and chromatic aberration correction into a single, advanced process.
DeepPRIME 3 has been trained on a dataset ten times larger than its predecessor and leverages our exclusive database of over 100,000 DxO Modules, ensuring an unprecedented level of image quality. Additionally, we are unveiling a technology preview of DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans (beta), bringing our most advanced noise reduction technology to X-Trans sensors for the first time.
Both innovations will be available in the upcoming DxO PureRAW 5 and will soon be integrated into DxO PhotoLab as a free upgrade.

Playing devil’s advocate here, but DXO announced that the latest Prime denoising will be included as a free upgrade to Photolab. They don’t say which version of Photolab - might be a free upgrade to version 9!
No, to version 8, this has been officially announced. Otherwise this wouldn’t be a free upgrade.
The press release that you posted a link for does not state a photolab version. It could still be an upgrade to version 9 for those that have purchased it.
DPL 9 should be released as usual in october (unless they are in a hurry). These new technologies will be made available next month. A free upgrade to DPL 9 could appear in november or december. If their recent announcement really targets DPL 9, this wouldn’t make sense and would definitely kill their reputation. I can’t believe that they could make such a mistake.
I think such a statement has to be meaningful at the time it’s issued - otherwise, it’s no good. PL9 doesn’t exist yet and almost certainly won’t be announced for at least six more months, so how can anyone talk about updates to it?
Still, I appreciate your point about PL9. I was concerned at first that DxO had retracted the news that PL8 would get a free update with the new denoising technology, but now see that has been confirmed by support. So PL8 will get new denoising options, and I imagine PL9 will get the rest of what’s coming in PureRAW 5 - that is, denoising and lens sharpness adjustments applied locally through masks and perhaps, if I understand correctly, auto-applied presets based on metadata. If PL9 has those enhancements, I will definitely buy it!
