Can any of you “testers” report on whether PL9 can EXPORT to HEIC (in addition to edit that format)? The addition of features in PL9 make it seem likely that I can save a few steps in my workflow…especially if final result can be exported to HEIC for sharing or integration into Apple Photos etc…thanks…gary
According to the user guide, you cannot export to HEIC - only JPEG, TIFF, or DNG:
Thanks. Hadn’t found the manual (yet) but will dive it
Yes, that’s right. No HEIC export or JPEG XL export either.
Regarding ProRaw, PL9 will open ProRaw DNGs with either JPEG or JPEG XL compression. There is no support for single-frame RAW DNGs from third-party apps like ProCamera or CameraPixels. Same for the DNGs produced by the Adobe Indigo Project camera app.
It apparently can’t open HEIF files from Fujifilm cameras either. At least not the .HIF files my X-E5, despite them using the same HEVC codec as Apple/Google HEIF (.heic) files. Renaming the files to .heic makes it find them but it can’t read them.
thanks for sharing that. I guess no upgrade $ from me until HIEC / HIF is fully supported on FUJI and other pro cameras.
Are you meaning no EXPORT to Heic etc (which I would also like to see) -OR- do you mean it won’t READ HEIC files? The export would be super useful, but why wouldn’t you rather use the raw file to begin editing? Not meaning to be snarky…just maybe I’m overlooking something…
It will read though some havr said not there cameras but not export
My phone works (samsung 22ultra) but is so slow as to be unusable
Somthing like over 1 to 2 minutes an imige on pc and laptop meeting specks
. They load almost instanly in Affinity
It not for me a usable addition to the program one that just isnt ready for release
On macOS, I created a Folder Action with Automator which automatically converts image files exported from PL9, into it that specific folder, to HEIC format image.
Those HEIC photos can then be edited in Apples Photos app.
Now that’s really clever

Both.

I’m generally very happy with the SOOC HEIFs from my Fuji X-E5. When I use it instead of the Sony A7CII I don’t want to spend time in post, just have fun and capture moments with the settings/film simulation/recipe I felt like using at the time.
However, sometimes I would like to just slightly brighten a photo up, or straigthen the horizon, or crop a bit. I do shoot RAW+HEIF so I do have the option (at least I will once the X-E5 is supported), but using the RAW instead of the SOOC to modify a few photos in the middle of a set also means that they won’t “fit in” with the rest, as the “recipe” won’t be exactly the same.
It would be great to not have to use a separate application for the HEIF files. I could use RAW+JPEG instead, but the HEIF files are 10-bit and the JPEGs only 8-bit, so the HEIF files are much better suited for tweaking.
For such minor tasks, wouldn’t Raw Studio be a better alternative as I would guess that exports from RS do perfectly match the SOOC photos?

Fujifilm X RAW Studio can change exposure compensation but not free-hand rotate (like the Horizon tool in PhotoLab) or even crop. In any case, I’d prefer to not have to switch between applications just because some photos are in a different format. It’s a fantastic application to tweak the settings I’ll use in-camera later on, though.
I use DigiKam for organizing my photos and technically I could use it for this purpose as well, but its UI and UX for editing photos is simply horrible.
I have the same problem cameras and phone
I really di not like using diffrent programs as its so much better organising by dates and keep everything taken on the same date in the same folder. Not easy if you have to use diffrent prigrams for fie types. That looked to be the really hood thing about 9, buts unusable as its so slow for HEIC
