Yes, many time
Avast and AVG have a long and well-known history of breaking legitimate software through bugs in their detection engine and bad virus definition updates. This reputation goes back decades.
What is the rationale for using anything but Microsoft Defender?

My experience helping friends with computer issues caused by Avast goes back over a decade. I cringe whenever I am asked to help with a problem on a computer “defended” by Avast.

It doesn’t work with the last release (feb. 17), even if DxO team said they tested it on a virtual machine. Hope it would be fine with the next release of Avast.
