DxO PhotoLab Provide advice

With RAW processing capabilities ensuring clean images and correct exposure, should we add a final creative editing step? Should we update with more digital/film simulations? And camera standard color simulations?

I’m sorry, but isn’t it your decision what you want to do with your picture?

@Wolfgang has a point here.

See this for a few more words (but fairly similar meaning)

Welcome to the forum, @ContinuousUpdates

PhotoLab is just a toolbox and there is no obligation to use all tools on all images.

A hammer is enough for a nail, some even use a hammer for screws, but you might want to use the screwdriver instead. My advice: check out what the tools can do, and whether they turn your photos in something you like or dislike.

To start with, it helps to note a few properties that your target image should have,
e.g. “I want a dark image with an illuminated face near the upper righthand corner.”
and try to get there.

It is the result that matters. Not how you get there. If you get the result quickly, with just a few steps, job done! Leave it at that. The more steps you add the more chances of messing things up., too. Making unnecessary work for yourself is not very productive.

Good practice…and if one wants to explore other features, there is always the possibility to continue with a virtual copy. Using virtual copies while exploring helps to keep an overview of the trials and VCs can easily be deleted if necessary.

Take care to NOT delete the master (marked with an M in a grey square)

Yes. The virtual copies are excellent if you want to experiment further.
