One of my instances of Dxo Photolab (7.6.0) no longer remembers the last opened folder at startup. Instead it goes to the desktop folder.
I thought it would be in the preferences to set the startup location but it’s not and I’m stuck.

No problem here (PL 7.19_499).
Whereas PL 7.6 was the last version before DxO introduced this internet connection period of 30+ days.
Hello,
(Windows 11, Dxo PL 9.3.2)
I went to see if I had a similar problem and I didn’t either. I went to the manual and looked for a possible solution there. Nothing directly but “File Explorer” was mentioned often. You may want to see if something was changed in that folder or set of commands related to it.. I checked mine and I didn’t find anything that was obvious, like a list of file names or file identifiers to check off.
Happy holidays .
Ron
If you are on Windows, PL7 saves last directory in user.config file in some subdirectory of %LOCALAPPDATA%\DxO\DxO.PhotoLab.exe_StrongName_addo3jomrfkt2faiwwfxxb444r1xfvlh ,
specifically for PL7.6 in the file %LOCALAPPDATA%\DxO\DxO.PhotoLab.exe_StrongName_addo3jomrfkt2faiwwfxxb444r1xfvlh\7.6.0.189\user.config – look for LastBrowsedPath.
As above, no problem here with PL7.19/Win.
Maybe it’s Mac specific?
That’s why I stick to 7.6
I couldn’t find anything changed. Even when exiting Dxo while in the users picture folder it is not reloaded on the next start of Dxo.
Yes I run Windows 10 for the purpose of Dxo.
Thanks for pointing me to that file. I checked it and compared it to the other Dxo instance I run, but saw nothing of interest. I renamed it to ‘old’ so Dxo would start a new user.config file but that didn’t change it.
I also renamed the database file but that also made no change.
Earlier Dxo would open with the last used folder. I hadn’t used this instance for a while but when returning from a trip I copied my photo’s from the camera CF-card and started editing them, and at some moment I noticed it started at ‘desktop’.
It didn’t do that before I am sure.
I understand that if a folder is removed or renamed outside of Dxo it can’t find it and defaults to ‘desktop’. That is not the case. It now is persistent in defaulting to ‘desktop’.
The last used folders are still present in the menu, and can be opened from there, but this doesn’t open the folder tree. It’s annoying because it worked before and it’s convenient (at least for me) to have the last used folder opened when Dxo starts.
There were no other files that I could find that could point to the last saved location.
As a final rescue I could try to reinstall Dxo but I don’t want to go through the hassle of activating it. I don’t know if it is suffice to save and replace the license file.
Any clue in PhotoLab.txt log file?
PL7.6/Win kept in ‘DxO PhotoLab 7 logs’ subdirectory of your Documents (some later versions keep logs in “%LocalAppData%\DxO\DxO PhotoLab 7\Logs”).
Maybe there’s a problem with localhost, some security rules, or permissions??
I also looked into those but couldn’t see anything related. Most noticeable were failed attempts to connect to things via the internet. I run Windows strictly offline.
