DxO license locations

Is there any method known to the group on how to restore license information in PL8 without the senseless request to DxO? As of PL6, one could copy the previously activated license files back to the original machine by copying them into the proper folders in the macOS ~library. The license file would work ONLY on the machine that it was originally activated for…which would seem to prevent any efforts to pirate the license. I have just requested a reset of one “seat” due to doing a complete “reset” of my MacBook Pro M4. I occasionally buy 2 “Elite” licenses just to have “spare” activations in case I need them, BUT…I am done playing this obnoxious game with DxO. I have been a customer since Optics Pro v2 (I think) and am fed up with their obstinence in this matter AND their mediocre support of Fuji files (as yet no Deep Prime XD/2s), no support of HEIC or JpegXL files. Yes a true photographer eschews using a “smart phone” camera, but it is inevitable that one will use what’s available on occasion. HEIC is (to some extent) proprietary I think, but Jpeg XL is not. ON1 can edit HEIC and “JXL” files and export to JpegXL…which is ideal for iCloud or other “cloud” storage or “sharing”.

Sorry to be on a “rant”, but I have given DxO a lot of support (business) over the years, just as a retiree and hobbyist (NOT Pro) and they seem to be completely tone deaf off these issues…gary

License files can be found in the Application Support folders that you’ll find in

  • For PhotoLab 1 … 7 → /Library/
  • For PhotoLab 7 … 8 → /Users/…/Library/

You should be able to restore the license files from a backup, provided you have one and you’re restoring to the same Mac that you used to activate PhotoLab.

Note that there is some overlap with PhotoLab 7. As long as you have either of the license files, you should be able to make PL7 work again. All other versions need the files in the proper locations.

Please also check for *.lock files as noted here:

Thanks! I will try that very shortly. I DO have backups (both Carbon Copy Cloner and Time Machine), so I am hopeful that this will work.

As I posted elsewhere already, it’s time DXO offered an easy way to transfer licences to another computer the way CaptureOne on ON1 or even Adobe do…
