DxO bundle pricing and Black Friday thoughts

DxO’s pricing for bundles can be hard to find - but I figured out how to see them. When I log in to my Store account, I see only one bundle advertised: PureRAW 4 + Nik Collection 7. If I click on “Buy upgrade” where I see PhotoLab 8 being offered, then delete it from my shopping cart, only then do I see a bundle of bundles:

PhotoLab 8 + ViewPoint 5: reduced from $338 to $269 US.
These two plus FilmPack 7: reduced from $477 to $349 US.
PL8 + FP7: reduced from $368 to $299 US.
And PR4 + Nik 7 reduced from $278 to $248 US.

The first is very interesting to me, as I already have a license for FP7. Last year’s Black Friday deals priced these products separately at $169 + $49, or $218. (ViewPoint 4’s retail price was a bit lower than VP5’s.) Since I have a lot of new photos to go through, I’ve been wondering if I should buy now or wait for Black Friday (possibly saving $30-50). The hidden bundle deal might be good enough for me to not wait. I’ll make up my mind later tonight or tomorrow.

Interesting. When I log into my account, I immediately see the following prices (for Austria):

This corresponds to about:
118 USD for the upgrade from PL7 to PL8 and
75 USD for the upgrade from VP 4 to VP 5.

Actually, the USD upgrade prices are lower than that.

PL7 to PL8 is $109 USD
VP4 to VP5 is $69 USD

That is $15 USD less than your estimate.

Hm, that differs from @Egregius price, but should be the same, right?

He is talking about new user pricing for multiple title bundles, not individual program upgrade prices for current users. Additionally, anyone who has not updated for more than 2 versions are not entitled to special upgrade pricing and are treated like new users. Unless @Egregius has not updated in a few years, which is unlikely, those prices are not meant for him.

However, Black Friday pricing for bundles may be much lower, and since he doesn’t have a license for Viewpoint the overall bundle price of PhotoLab 8 and Viewpoint 5 may be low enough for him to decide to take advantage of it.

My last purchases were PL5 and VP3, so no discounted upgrade prices for me. I do have licenses for newer versions, but those were gifts.

Thank you Mark and Greg, I misunderstood then.

It’s done: I purchased PL8 Elite + VP5. I don’t know if it’s just VP5 or its combination with PL8, but the performance improvement alone is impressive. And I’ve already found an image that is wacky enough to benefit from the new stuff in VP5. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Congratulations. Now you have the entire current suite. Local adjustments have changed very significantly since PL 5 and it may take some time to get used to them. Using the current LA adjustments also have a few quirks that some users find annoying. If you have played with the 30 day trial you may already be familiar with the changes .

Now I understand the one-month-advance announcement of PhotoLab 8. The 1 month gap between black friday and the end of the trial will tempt even long-term DXO customers to not wait for the black friday deals.
Тhe good thing is that it’s an informed choice, and won’t lead to the traditional Black Friday frustration.

No need for that, Mark. While I still have PL5 installed on my second computer, I stopped using it a long time ago and have both tested and used later products extensively.

That’s a great point! I hope things turn out as you suggest. Historically, customers here have been frustrated every year by the Black Friday discounts, despite repetition. Even when 30% promotional discounts were still being offered upon the release of a new product (before PhotoLab 6). The difficulty I and others have had finding the bundle prices doesn’t help.

Last year, someone reported that the bundle discounts disappeared when it was time for Black Friday sales. These were thought by at least one person to have been better than the BF discounts. (I can’t verify that.) Furthermore, with retail prices generally going up every year or two, the savings haven’t proportionally increased. So I have to agree that DxO is providing incentives to not wait for BF sales.

I decided that the present opportunity suited me just fine. Maybe the holidays are putting me in a spending mood.

I admit that I too am getting impatient for Black Friday. Moreover, for the full package (and I have passed the 2 years of the full package) the discount is unlikely to be much different than the current one.
On the other hand, the price of the complete package is exactly the same as the CaptureOne. So if for black friday there is a discount for the CaptureOne, maybe DXO will also offer a few more euro discount.
Do these petty bills make sense? More likely - No! But since DXO plays retail with their pricing policy, I respond the same way.
