DxO 9.3 AI causing an Internal Error

Hi,

I have a Windows machine with a GPU AMD RX7600 and CPU AMD Ryzen 7 9700X. With the new DxO 9 (I’m running on 9.3) when I’m try to use the AI, the app causing an Internal Error and doesn’t let me to use it. Are any others using a AMD GPU having the same problem?

Thank you

I have an older CPU and an RTX 5060 16GB and everything runs fine. But why not update to the latest version, PL 9.4 Maybe that will fix your problem…

GPU AMD RX7600

I guess the GPU is 8GB VRAM. Note: the VRAM amount what really counts.

Regarding ‘AI’: I guess the ‘Pre-defined’ (keyword) AI masking (like: People, Sky) raise your problem. I suggest to try first the ‘Manual’ AI masks like, Selection, Area, Auto-Brush to how they works. With 8GB VRAM GPU i also really suggest to quit all other applications as possible, like Photoshop, Web browsers, etc. If ‘DeepPrime rendering’ enabled in preferences, than disable it. Other things may also can count, like its happen before Exports or after any Export.

p.s.: and try the latest PL 9.4.

I also have this issue with the iGPU on my Ryzen 5800H system. Worked just fine before, just slowly. Not sure why people insist “not enough vram”

I’m having the same issue with an RX 9600XT with 16GB of VRAM on PL 9.4. How much system RAM do you have? I have 16GB and am wondering if that’s maybe causing the issue, even though it’s above the minimum requirements published by DXO.

Hi,

This is the answer from DxO support to this problem:

At this stage, we have identified that the root cause of the issue you are experiencing with AI features in DxO PhotoLab 9 is linked to the current behavior of AMD GPU drivers. We have encountered a very similar situation in the past with NVIDIA drivers as well. In that case, NVIDIA was significantly more reactive on their side, and several driver updates did improve the situation — even though, to be completely honest, the issue was not resolved for 100% of affected users.
*
With AMD, despite our ongoing exchanges and the detailed diagnostics we have provided, we are currently not seeing the same level of progress or reactivity. As a result, we do not have any visibility on when — or if — a corrective driver update will be released on their side.*

We have to wait :frowning:

Switching to “compatibility mode” in the photolabs seettings seems to solve the AMD GPU problems. No errors so far.

However, does someone know what the “compatibility mode” does and how much performance I lose with this mode?

Changed my graphic card. Now, I use a Geforce RTX 5070. No problems so far. Exporting photos in DxO 9.8 is about 50x faster. Before, with the Radeon Card I could not use the GPU due to errors, CPU only. Exporting would last over 5 minutes for a single photo. With the Gforce it takes about 5-7 seconds.

I had the same problem with AMD, and I had to move to Geforce RTX 5060. Now running super.

What Radeon card was this?

If it’s any of the newer ones, that ought to be concerning and it ought to be more common knowledge that DxO software only plays nice with nVidia cards.

If it’s an older card then that might be your (and @Rafu ‘s ) answer too, regardless of brand.

Please, can you describe the AMD GPU Type and amount of VRAM?

A i see, your was a GPU AMD RX7600 with 8GB. I like to ask, when (what PL version, etc) when you change the GPU?

Your’e right about common experience. However, its bias’ed a bit, as seems more user use nVidia than AMD (or Intel).

I think, for DxO is “transparent” what the GPU (or NPU) type - its use via WinML / GPU/NPU Providers (edit: at least for AI mask). I think, the main issue the GPU driver and WinML provider “quality”.

In my case, I had the AMD NITRO+ RX 590 with 8GB RAM. All new drivers and chipset drivers. The problem occurred when I wanted to export photos after using AI-masks.

I like to ask what was PL version? I guess the latest. The AI-masks vas “manual” (selection, area) or Predefined? Noise reduction was DP3 or DP3 XD? Loupe was used before Exporting? DeepPrimerendering was OFF? Paralel export was = 1 (and not >1)? Previously you mention: “Switching to “compatibility mode” in the photolabs seettings seems to solve” → So, its not solve?

As i try to find a “very-very-very-very budget” GPU at least with 8GB GPU → the AMD RX590 is also in the table for me (very budget 2nd hand prices). I have AMD RX550 4GB → RX590 like 4 times faster, what may still okay for me.

I used an AMD Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC 8GB GDDR6. Doesn’t work with AI-mask. I change it with NIVIDIA Geforce RTX 5060 and is working super. Now I have to sell the AMD card.

As far a I can make out, that card dates from 2018. Given that, 'm not surprised it can’t cope with PL9.

The card produced here and there error messages with previous versions of PL, too. Sometimes, a driver update did help, sometimes not. I guess that the AMD drivers are more prone to produce errors with PL than other drivers. At least for me. That’s why I have swapped the graphic cars.

Compatibility mode did solve the problem of the AMD error message with the card. However, this meant that exporting photos goes with the CPU only whereas the GPU of the card is not being used. This lead to much much longer waiting times for exporting photos. In the end, this was just a workaround, not a real solution.

The RX590 is still a good graphic card - for all other applications than PL 9 and its AI functions. Never had any problems with it. You can have mine if you are interested in a used card. I lies in my shelf.
