DXO 20 Year Anniversary - Tony Northrup Video

Hi all,

Just posting this link for those you may not see it on YouTube

Thanks for posting the video, @onelife69

I do understand the Northrup’s enthusiasm even though some of what they say needs to be taken with a grain of salt (gear support) … and I’d still like DxO to finish some of their developments and improve the UI.

  • Asset management: Database maintenance: and consistency, automatic compressed backups; remove images from the DB without having to trash the images etc.
  • Keyword import through files rather than rescanning the whole lot, specially in consideration of the items mentioned above
  • UI contrast and font sizes, think of people with less than 20/20 eyesight please

At times, enthusiasm is in the way of seeing a wider reality.

I’ve only been using photolab since v7, from what I’m told things have improved with each iteration, hopefully in the coming versions they can get things nicely tidied up to a level that is most usable/accessible.

Yes, but I for one am not holding my breath…

No problem with this … if you use DPL as a raw developer mostly.

If you’re into keywords, large catalogs and search/find functionality, other apps are better suited imo.

Interesting that they haven’t really done that much on DxO previously but, hey, publicity is publicity.

I found their comments at the end regarding DxO’s purchase of AI hardware interesting. I wonder how they intend to use it.

You’ll see how it progress with v8 …

If they tweak the EULA to allow them to use my images that edit in PL to train their AI then that will be me done with PL.

There is no current evidence that this will happen. It is way too early to be concerned about this or make any assumptions about the future.

I haven’t watched any of their stuff before and after this one will not bother. It was real spin I was amazed how distorted some of it is. The split resulting from the DxO One camera mess/bankruptcy is avoided. DxO being perfectionists is said so many times you wonder how such botched updates could ever be DxO or the lack of bug fixes could happen. As for the ViewPoint and FilmPack being used as ransom programs that hardly fitted with DXO not seeking to extract the last buck from users they wisely avoided that little issue. Over all a glossy spin video that was just that.

@John7 They have always been arch bullsh…ers and this was probably one of the worst of theirs that I have seen.

Arguably even with the myriad of gripes that we have about DxO and DxPL it deserves better but so do we, from DxO!!??

My be its seeking perfection that leads to beta testers being ignored as they views weren’t needed?
