Running on Mac M1 Max, OS 15.5, LrC 14.3.1 and 14.4 (first noticed in 14.4, downgraded back to 14.3.1 and still happens) - DXO PureRaw 5.2
I’m running the Plugin Extras command to process images using previous settings… that all works fine, then the processed images are brought back to Lightroom via the Import window.
I choose to import the images as usual, but then I’m faced with TWO copies of each image… identical file names, but each capable of having two different develop settings… much like a ‘virtual copy’ - except they aren’t virtual copies.
There is only one DNG file in the Finder folder… Removing EITHER of the copies in Lightroom removes BOTH copies…
I tried again, but this time - when the images were brought back to Lightroom’s Import dialogue, I ‘cancelled’ the import… only to find that they had already been imported in the background, without any interaction - but only one copy…
So the normal expected behaviour is for the processed images to appear in LrC’s Import dialogue, then for you to confirm the import - but doing that creates TWO copies - which should be impossible (this also throws up database errors in the catalogue).
Where can I find the previous installer to go back a version?
Previous versions of LrC can be installed with the CC manager, but it must be set to show old versions. Check out the … of each product in the manager.
Depending on how you set PureRAW output names, Lr will see different files with the same name and extension. If you set DPR to export with different name and/or extension, the issue should be gone.
It’s also nothing to do with filenames - I think it’s partly a DXO issue, but mainly an Adobe issue, so I’ve reported the bug to both…
Basically - if you enable “export images to Lightroom Classic after processing” in the PureRaw Preset - then from within Lightroom itself use the “Plugin Extras” to process the images with PureRaw, the plugin brings the resulting DNGs into Lightroom automatically, but then ALSO brings up the Import dialog, to import the same DNGs it’s already brought back in automatically… and that’s where the problem occurs… Lightroom doesn’t see that the images have just been added to the catalog automatically… so the import process creates a duplicate reference in the catalog to the same image already imported, resulting in two catalog entries of the same file, which shouldn’t be possible.
Workaround is to make sure that the selected preset doesn’t have ‘export to lightroom’ enabled - but a proper fix would be for DXO to make sure that even if the preset DOES have that option enabled, it’s ignored if the app has been called via the Plugin Extras in Lightroom.
I would like to support J10’s explanation. But coming from a different angle. I use C1 and while PR4 is not a plug in, you will have the same problem–except there will be a file name with DNG-1. The key is to set up PR so it does not automatically ‘Export with original RAW file(s)’
