Disc spinning and 10 minutes to start up from LR

Anyone help? I’ve installed FilmPack and when I select edit with from Lightroom my hard disc starts whirring and it’s about 10 minutes before FilmPack starts up. Every single time.

I don’t want FP to catalogue all of my files I just want it to open the single file I’ve sent it. I have a huge catalogue of 130k images.

Anyone got any idea what’s going on? It’s entirely unusable as is.

I’ve seen a similar thing with viewpoint, in my case the hard discs are for backup and when I load viewpoint they spin up, and only when that has happened does the program start. There is no reason for viewpoint to be accessing the discs to access data, they are time machine volumes and encrypted.

Does the same delay occur when you fire-up FP in standalone mode ?

If not then the issue lies with the way LR is initiating FP.

Here is a problem I’ve experienced a couple of times with DxO PhotoLab 8 when I have my Time Machine backup drive as well as a Carbon Copy Cloner backup drive, both spinning hard disk drives, connected to my Mac at the same time.
