I’ve been using DxO PL since 2021, and I upgraded to PL 9 when it was released. I’m generally a fan. But personally, I prefer XD2s over DP3 because it better preserves details, important for the birds and wildlife that I mostly shoot. I am less struck by other differences.

My results aren’t consistent. Here’s an example where DP3 did a worse job on tree branches with strong backlight. And this is with a good lens (Sony 35mmGM).

I did quite a bit of testing of DP3 vs XD2 for high ISO sport photos. Both are good, but the detail in the XD2 is often synthetic. I ended up with distorted and weird looking faces and eyes with XD2, occasionally almost alien, so went back to DP3 all the time.
The ideal range for a natural looking effect with DP3 on is 0 to 12. Severe noise will occasionally elicit a 20 but it’s very rare. I usually use 4 to 8.
These NR settings are for DP3 on Nikon cameras shooting between ISO 3200 and ISO 16000.
