Deactivate FilmPack 7 to activate FP8 in PL7

Apologies if I am in the wrong place. I have PhotoLab 7 elite and FilmPack 7 which work fine. I just purchased FilmPack 8, downloaded and activated it. In PhotoLab 7 my old FilmPack 7 is still showing as activated so I binned the app. It still shows in PhotoLab 7 in the PhotoLab menu and the newer Filmpack 8 doesn’t show in the PhotoLab menu. How do I set things right?

Hi there.

Unfortunately FilmPack 8 demands PhotoLab 9. It do not offer support for lower versions of PL.

Ouch! Thanks for the quick response.

It would require DxO to offer an update to PL 7 and PL 8 to support it. They may do that, although it is more likely for PL 8 than PL7. They often provide limited updates to PhotoLab for one version back after a new annual release. They also often provide a few limited updates for a short time to 2 versions back of PhotoLab. There are no guaranties but it is possible.

I think it is not possible:
FP7 came out at the same date (27.09.2023) as PL7 and is compatible.
PL6 didn’t get an update to be compatible.

Note that you don’t need to have FilmPack actually installed (as a standalone app) in order to be able to use the “instance” of FP that’s integrated with PhotoLab - - you just need to give PL your FP license number.

  • So, you can continue using FPv7 even tho you have “binned the app”, as you say.

Thanks, everyone. I decided to purchase PPL9 which unfortunately seems very buggy but I can get back to work.

…run the trial!
Why? DxO raised requirements of PL9, mostly for the new features. If you’re working with older hardware, PL9 might simply be asking too much off it.

Well, I’m not working with older hardware and it is a rip off because I don’t need the new features, but I needed to get to work and I wanted my earlier workflow for the project I’m working on… It certainly didn’t endear me to sticking with DXO which is a decision I’ll make.

PhotoLab 9 has many new and upgraded features which perhaps you will discover gives you significant added value. I’ve been a user of PhotoLab since version 1, and PL. 9 is by far the most comprehensive annual update PhotoLab has had.
