What you call junk is everywhere… in one form or another. That’s the price you pay for using raw files and saving the development somehow (in a catalog and/or as proprietary sidecar) for later access.
It’s important to remember that if you’ve used PL for development and then want to move or rename your images, always do so within PL. Otherwise, you’ll encounter issues with the PL database, aside from manually “synchronizing” sidecar files, etc.
Personally, I rename images (and delete bad ones) before developing them in PL.

So far, I’ve always found my stuff without keywords or DAM. I’m not a professional, not an event photographer, I no longer run a photography club website, and I don’t need one yet – just a dedicated amateur who likes to keep things simple.
